Average Woman

As everyone knows, my weight loss struggle continues.  I am on a winning trail right now but it is now and will always be a struggle.  I come from heavy stock and I have ignored the problem for too long but I am motivated right now.  And I watch things like Project Runway where they make clothes for sticks and want us all to believe that a size 2 is a normal size.  But the research shows that the average woman is a size 14, not a size 2.  As I am out and about I see 1 person in a 100 who fits their size 2 model.  And that person would probably like to weigh a little more because, frankly, they look like 12 year old boys body wise.  I am now wearing size 12 pants and have a pair of 10's that fit but are not super comfy.  I hope to be an 8 by summer.  I am big on top so the bottom may make it but I have curves so it's probably not ever gonna happen top wise.  A 12 sounds bad  but I have been a size 20 and I feel so much better.

I saw a story that "fat is the new ugly"...  Apparently fat is the worst thing you can be on the planet you can be in some eyes.  I don't happen to think so but there will always be people who do think so.  Screw them.  I am  more than the size of my body.  Don't like me because of it?  Whatever.  One of the worst offenders I hear every day is Dr Laura who espouses every day her opinion on fat people.  The B can go butt a stump.

Albuquerque, February 2012

Robbie, Me, Kyle at Hard Rock 2-18-12

My 2 favorite traveling buddies and I drove to Albuquerque for the weekend, to get away and to play at the casino.  We drove over on Friday night and by the next morning, we were refreshed and ready for a couple of days of unplanned leisure.  First, we went to the Sandia Casino and lost a little of money there.   You can see my March 16 entry to see a pic of the hotel.  We did not stay there this time but have learned a couple of things and will be staying there next time.  We then went to Old Town Albuquerque where we looked in shops and had a great lunch--a tortilla burger.  It was a great burger in a flour tortilla instead of a bun and it had sour cream and green chiles.  It was yum.  And $3 per person!!

We checked out many of the shops and found a photographer's co-op and talked to a lady there who had pictures for sale of the area.  While the boys bought a larger picture, I just bought some small note cards with photos on them for my collection.  This lady had taken pictures of old Whiting Bros Stations and Motels from the old Route 66, something Kyle and I had talked about before.  When we were younger, our family came from Arizona to Texas to visit my grandmother while Kyle's family went west regularly went west.  We were also told that even though it is now an auto repair shop, the last standing Whiting Brother's station and sign were in Moriarity, NM, which is just east of Albuquerque, so on the way home we had to find it.    Click here for some Whiting Bros History:

Moriarity NM
While we are lookers, we are not big buyers so not much $$ spent but we had a great time.  After a brief rest at the hotel, our next stop was the Albuquerque Hard Rock:
A nice & fun place

Notthing exciting happened but it was fun to look at clothes and guitars different people had donated to the casino.
Then, on Sunday morning we met up with my boyfriend Mike and his boyfriend Cecil for breakfast.  It was the first time any of the others had met and we had a great breakfast at Sandia and a grand time visiting.

It was a great weekend

My Mom

Angela,

Mom was the middle child...your granddad was the oldest, then Aunt Honorah, then mom, Uncle Ted and Uncle Dan.  I'll try to download some pics of all of them.

You can see my mom and dad here:

Stars Off the Pedestal

It's not just Rosie.   I used to admire the talents of some actors but then you see some ugly true colors and, well, no thanks.

Mel Gibson:  Ugly racist rants.  Left his wife of about 30 years to live with a bimbo who brought him down and tarnished his rep beyond repair.  Buh bye.

Kevin Costner:  Had a child with another woman while still married to his long time wife.  Not only screwing around but not even having safe sex. Used to be box office gold, now playing Ben Affleck's brother in law.  Buh bye.

Brad and Angelina:  Possible nice people, appear to be good parents....he was married and she went after who she wanted.  Ok talents, not worth box office $$.  Buh bye.

Lindsey Lohan:  Liked her in Parent Trap.  Now she's a joke and an ex-con.  Still in show business LiLo?

Charlie Sheen:  Trainwreck.

Ahnuld:  Screwing the maid, knocking her up.  Bye Maria.

Jesse James:  Screwing around on Sandra Bullock?  It came out after she gave her loving Oscar winning speech for 'The Blindside'.   Apparently she was blindsided.  Prick.

Tiger Woods: Got what he deserved.  First with a golf club, then a divorce, then a career nosedive.

John Edwards:  So slimy that I'm surprised his name does not slide off the blog.   Cheated on wife while she was dying of cancer and then paid an aid to claim his love child so it would not ruin his political career.  How'd that work out for you?  Ick.

Just to name a few.

Oh, Rosie

There is news today that Rosie O'Donnell's show on the Oprah Network was cancelled after 5 months.  I can't say that I am too surprised that it failed but Oprah's network is apparently not doing well so it will be interesting to see what replaces it.  I do have to admit that I have not only never seen the show and have not seen any other show on OWN either.

I used to like Rosie.  She used to be funny and down to earth.  Her first show had a sweetness about it and she was--or seemed to be--just a fan living the dream.  But then she got political, went on The View, and apparently showed her true and ugly self.   She feuded with Donald Trump and Elizabeth Hasselbeck and whoever else she could piss off and even if she had valid points, her nastiness drove them into the ground.  I got the impression she was trying to put ugly behind her and go back to sweet but you can't unring the bitch bell so I'm not surprised it failed.

I do hope you can find something to do Rosie, but I won't be watching.

New Car

I got rid of my Honda CRV and went to Dallas to get a new pimped out Honda Civic.  And here it is:

My salesman Mark, me and my car

I love this car!!  I love the way it drives!!   I'm ready for it to be paid for!!

Insomnia and eating right and exercising, etc.

I've discussed it before and I'll discuss it again.  It is a recurring problem, since Tech in the late 70's.  I absolutely cannot go to sleep.  I've been off all week and been up at 4am on 4 of those days.  I'm not getting up early...just not going to sleep at all.  Then when I go back to bed, I'm up about 830 for the day.  It's here again and it's getting old.  I had actually gotten to stop with the sleeping pills for awhile but I guess I'll have to start again.  I'm beginning to blither, with complete idiot right around the corner.  I have not been following my Weight Watchers like I should so that's probably the deal.  Vacation is over.  Back to being good.

On WW I get plenty to eat so what is my deal?  I have always--apparently--had horrible eating habits and I also apparently hate structure.  I certainly hate cooking.  I certainly find it easier to grab things without a plan and then  I fall into an old WW habit of not figuring out how to count it and then just blow the tracking off.  That needs to stop.  You'd think I'd find the time when I only sleep 4 hours a day!!

And what's up with that treadmill in there and me in here.  It seems that never the two shall meet.  I like doing it when I'm doing it and I like how it makes me feel.  I just need a big push.  Again, lots of time on my hands!  I could be doing the Biggest Loser exercise thing.  I need Bob.

All I can vow to do is try to do better.  And it's my vow.  I hope I can keep it.

TV Quarters

Over the years, I've seen a lot of TV shows with great sets that no one could actually afford but I liked them so much, I've decided I'd actually like to live at:

1.   The Reardon Boarding house, on Guiding Light.  Specifically the room that, over the years, belonged to Bridget, Harley & Olivia.  It's just one room with a bath but you get to share the cool kitchen with the other boarders and it always looked like fun.

2.  The Brides dormitory on Here Come the Brides.  I just finished the 2nd season and there were always cute, manly men hanging around.  And a saloon just across the street.

3.  Leonard and Sheldon's apartment on Big Bang Theory.  They'd have to move, of course.  Raj's apartment is cute too.

4.  Neal's apartment or Peter and El's house on White Collar.  Love them both.

5.  Loved the apartment that Big bought for Carrie in Sex and the City.   Loved that closet!!

6.  Alisha's apartment on The Good Wife.  Sorry Grace and Zach.  Time to find a new place to live.

7.  Downton Abbey.   I'll need Mr Bates, of course.

8.  The Buckman's entire apartment on Mad About You.  The entire thing.
Love the tile,cabinets,stove...great kitchen!!

It's true.

It's a sad day...Davy Jones dies...Hey, hey we're the Monkees

Hey, hey, they're the Monkees!!  Mickey, Davy, Peter, Mike 1966

Davy, no date but recently.  Still a cutie.
In 1966, I was 9 and living in Bagdad on Juniper Street.  That year, The Monkees walked into my TV and although I was not the biggest fan, into my life.

Davy, Mickey, Peter & Mike were goofy guys who all strangely lived together, had strange adventures and managed to break into song at least once every episode.  The show was a big hit and they went on to record some really catchy songs like 'Daydream Believer' and 'Last Train to Clarksville'.   These guys were the first "teen idols" in my life.  They--and especially Davy--were on the cover of Tiger Beat and Fave and we gobbled up every tidbit about all their lives, or what we were fed was their lives--and some daydreamed about meeting them and falling in love, much now like a Jonas brother or Justin Bieber.  Like I said, not me, because my heart belonged to another...Bobby Sherman...a couple of years later.  I don't remember actually being in love at age 9.   I remember Davy, like Bobby, married a girl and hid it so it would not spoil their images.  Married teen idols lose a little luster.  Oddly, for some reason, I remember Davy being on 'The Danny Thomas Show'' as a teen idol who hid his wife and DT telling him that if he was sure of his talent, he could handle the scandal of being married.  It was kind of a surreal moment as I'm sure it was meant to be.

Davy died yesterday at the age of 66.  He left behind his 3rd wife who I saw with him one day on Dr Phil and who seemed to nag his ass beyond reason, and 4 daughters.   His death, at such a young age, (trust me, the closer we get to it, the younger it seems!! ) stunned a generation.  For me, not even the biggest fan, it is a piece of childhood and innocence that is lost.    And it makes me really sad.   RIP Davy!!
