I'm watchig a move called 'An Education'. Carey Mulligan is a young English actress who was nominated for an acadamy award for this novie. I am enjoying so far but am not far along enough to review. But I will.
But early on she has a line about when she gets to University (and out from under her father's thunb) she will read what she wants and listen to what she wants and talk to people who know "lots about lots". What a cool line.
My favorite part of my job is talking to people, some of which do know lots about lots. Most are kind and interesting and if I ask a few questions, some of them will expound endlessly. Since I move "at the speed of windows" most of the time, the ability to chat is good and interesting people are good.

Gas Pump
Today the sign at the gas station showed regular at $2.65, premium at $2.77, Super at $2.89. I have never seen them 12 cents apart...only 10 cents ever. Just an observation.
31 Flavors
Today I passed a sign at Dairy Queen advertising 25 years and 25 floavors for blizzards and it made me wonder if 31 flavors still exists. There is a Baskin Robins here in town but I haven't been in there and wonder if they still have 31 flavors. I don't think the sign says.
I always wanted chocolate of sone kind,..big surprise...never wanted bubble gum flavor, pistacio or tutti frutti but it was cool that they were there. No pun intended.
Do they still have 31 flavors?

Red Light, Green Light
Have you ever noticed that when you want the light to be red it never is? Like, say, you want to take a picture of the ugliest car on the planet? Like, say a pukey evil empire orange Tahoe--yep, the entire car-- with 24 inches of longhorn on the back window. But every time I thought we'd stop so I could get a picture, the light turned green. I'll be watching for it again. Someday, it will be on this blog.
UNCOOLEST PUKEY CAR EVER!!

Starsky & Hutch
In my tradition of 70's TV, I'm starting season 1 of Starsky & Hutch. The 1st episode is kinda painful and I'm not sure I'll make it but I'm gonna give it a try. Starksy's sweater and David Soul's history of wife beating are 2 really big strikes.
We'll see.
I do have to admit: COOLEST CAR EVER !!

Tiger Woods at the Masters
Not really much to say about that because I haven't watched but just a couple of interesting observations:
I saw an article that says, basically, the Masters is his perfect comeback location because no mere mortal can get tickets and anyone who has tickets can get banned for life for being 'inappropriate'. You can play if you're 'inappropriate' but you can't watch in person.
Secondly, don't you know that Tiger is grateful for Jesse James? Both are horn dogs but at least Tiger only humiliated the mother of his children, not 'America's Sweetheart'

Elton John: He's still got it.
A couple of months ago, it was announced that 'Sir Elton' would be at the United Spirit Arena for the 2nd time. I'd wanted to see him the 1st time, 10 years ago but could not get tickets. I'd heard his show was fabulous and was disappointed but figured I'd have my chance again some day.
I don't remember the price of the tickets when they went on sale but it was more than I was willing to pay. I'd paid about $90 for the Eagles a few years back and that was definitely my limit and worth every dime. In the boxes of my mind, EJ did not fit into that high of a price range. I used my 98 Kool points and entered the raffle and, of course, did not win. But then something strange happened. My friend Jan has a pesky stalker and he bought her tickets and taped them to her door, no doubt thinking she'd be grateful enough to take him. She wasn't ...she took me!! I'm sure glad she did!!
He started about 815...15 minutes after ticket listed show time but well before everyone showed up. Annoying people, crawling over you at 845!!! No opening act. No intermission. Just almost 2 1/2 hours of great music. I admit I don't listen to 'pop' music much but there was a time when I did and he was definitely a blast from the past.
He introduced his band and his drummer, a scary looking man in a pink shirt who seemed to know exactly when the camera was on him, has been his drummer since 1969. WOW!!! For more than 40 years,
this has been their lives. And , they still got it!!!
I have to wonder how many 'Rocket Man' coats he has? Does he get them at the Porter Waggoner store?
I have no musical ability except to sing loudly, off key, but am amazed at talent like his. Of course the cameras focus on his hands and the entire thing just boggles my mind. He is obviously brilliant and I have to wonder if he knows the sound that comes out of every key on that piano. My overworked word of the day is amazing and it just fits.
I had my camera but he was an ant in a spotlight so nothing really came out. The AJ has some pictures and I emailed the photog to see if I could use them and it's early, of course, so I have not heard back from him. If he says no, that's ok...they are on the AJ website at www.lubbockonline.com .
I'm thinking I may go back to bed...

Edited to add picture. My friend Caleb took it at the concert and sent it from his cell phone. I do love technology. It's a pretty good picture!!! The nice kid from the AJ told me that company policy said I could not use his pictures so I didn't.

The moral of this story is...
If you drive down the street on a strange looking motorcycle--2 wheels in front, 1 in back-- and you have a helmet with a mohawk on it, someone might take your picture and put it on their blog.

Rod Blagojevich
This man is the former governor of Illinois, I haven't looked it up but think he is under indictment for trying to sell Barack Obama's senate seat. He is apparently awaiting trial, has had his passport pulled and is maintaining innocence.
He is also on Celebrity Apprentice right now,. He cannot type, text or work his cell phone. He has no ideas and is completely not contributing to anything. Heck, he's barely awake.
It is really hard to believe that this man could run a state. Is he really this dumb? Are the people of Illinois?
And I have one word for Donald Trump...Hypocrite!!! He appears to have a little man crush on this man yet fired Khloe Kardashian for doing community service time for DWI. I don't condone DWI in any way and any Kardashian is beyond my my level of comprehension but a felon is a felon. Why is he here?

Happy Easter
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear
And Grace my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
And Grace wil lead me home.
When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see

'Small Town Odds' by Jason Headley **Spoilers**
I read a 2nd book in the last couple of weeks. I'm on a good path. I really like reading.
I just read a book called 'Small Town Odds'. Our main character is Eric Mercer, an intelligent former high school football hero who had big dreams of leaving the town of Pinely, West Virginia, the small town he lived in his entire life. His dreams included Brown Univerisity with Jill Dupree, the love of his life, Instead a drunken night with his childhood crush Gina leaves him facing fatherhood and his dreams shattered. Jill is heartbroken and leaves him behind.
Six years later, Eric works at the the funeral home by day and tends bar at the American Legion by night, He hangs out with his childhood friends, drinks too much and does his best to take care of his little girl Tess and maintain a working parental relationship with Gina. Basically, his life is going nowhere.
When Jill comes home for her father's funeral, Eric falls head first into "what could have been". Her appearance makes him think about leaving his hometown and Tess to follow what he thinks he wants. Interactions with hs parents, friends, Jill and Gina & Tess leave him realizing that worrying about what if has kept him from living his life in the now. When he says goodbye to Jill, he says hello to his present life.
I really liked Eric and want to know more.
This is Jason Headley's only published book,. I say that because on his website, he has a link to his 2nd book, which was rejected by publishers and he now has the full book online and invites you to print and read it for free, It's not a sequal, so no Eric but I will for sure be checking it out.
