Why are these the chosen?

Sharon Osbourne.   Foul mouthed.  Why is she famous?  For marrying a incoherent musician?  I don't get it.

Sammy Davis Jr.  Read previous post.

Dana Delaney.  Cannot watch anything she is in.    Same for Kim Delaney.  I should probably avoid all Delenay's.

Why is Monti Sharp not a bigger star?  He should be.

Sammy Davis Jr

Its Mod Squad time again and for the 2nd time, Sammy Davis Jr is a guest.  He is the worst actor on the planet.  The male Ali McGraw.  Yep, that stinky.

And on this show, that says a lot.  Lots of stinky acting here.  It's fun.

The Big Dance

I am already March Mad and it's only the 1st weekend.   Woohoo for the Evil Empire going out 1st round and I really have no animosity against KU but I really like underdogs winning so I was rooting for Northern Iowa.

I hope to see Baylor run the table.  I do think that Tweety Carter is 45 and that LaceDarius Dunn is even more talented than when I saw him play her in Lubbock 2 years ago as a freshman.  I told my friend then  "Oh, goody...we get to watch him for 4 more years..." as he kicked our asses,

Go Bears!!!

Stalag 17 **Spoiler**

What a great movie!!  Another that I watch every time I find it on TV.  And I own it on DVD,

This movie was made in 1953and is in black & white  and is set in a WW II German POW camp.  The all male cast play a camp of sergeants trying to survive the war and fight back in their own way.  William Holden, Harvey Lembeck, Neville Brand & Peter Graves play prisoners in a camp run by Otto Preminger.  William Holden won an Oscar for the role of his career, J J Sefton, a cynical grifter who deals with the Germans for creature comforts and irritates his fellow prisoners by not careing to fit in and by discouraging their hopes of escape.  When the Germans begin to learn everything that goes on in the barracks, Sefton is the 1st suspect.  But, things are not always as the seem.

Humor abounds amidst the misery, with Lembeck and Robert Strauss providing the comic relief.  And the ingenuity of the American prisoners makes me proud.

I always think of this movie when I hear 'When Johnny Comes Marching Home'

This movie was the model for Hogan's Heroes.

At Ease.

Sandra & Jesse

I loved Sandra Bullock's speech accepting her Oscar and how she looked lovingly at her husband Jesse James and he had tears in his eyes and it seemed very sweet.   It was half a lie...hers was real...his was not.  Apparently  the prick was cheating on her with a "tattoo artist"  called 'Bombshell' while she was filming 'Blind Side'.   No one is denying it...she's moved out, he is apologizing.   Whatever Jesse.  Whatever.   Loser.

You can do better Sandra.  Jesse and Bombshell deserve each other.

Kitchen Chaos

My kitchen is being painted and it's gonna be beautiful.  Right now it is chaos.

It has been primed and painted.

I have drawers in my living room and everything that should be in a cabinet is in the sunroom.  And I can't find a thing.
                                      But it will be beautiful....soon.

I am so confused...

Am I the only person thinking there are things wrong with these pictures, figuratiely speaking?

<<<<<<Howard Stern criticizing Gabourey Sidobe's looks? Are you kidding me?

>>>>>>>>>>>>

Alec Baldwin on Jerry Seinfield's show called 'The Marriage Ref' giving marital advice. Will he be on SuperNanny next, giving child rearing advice?

What's next? Maybe a Kardashian or Hilton can go on 'Dirty Jobs' and do some career counseling.

Apollo 13

"With all due respect, sir, I believe this will be our finest hour"

I have seen this movie many times and it one of those that when it's on, I have to sit and watch what happens, From Mrs Lovell's panic as she loses her wedding ring down the drain the night before the launch to Ed Harris in his new vest asking for Go/No Go, to the explosion, the brilliant ingenuity of the guys who fit the square peg in the round hole all the way until the moment the ship hit the water, I was--and am--on the edge of my seat. I love that Neal Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin distract Jim Lovell's mom while she watches the TV coverage.

I love smart men and I love the American heart and I still get major sappy at the fact that these guys used every resource to get their teammates home. It makes me proud to be an American although I usually am on a general basis.

Tech Support Okie Dokie!!

I have been having issues w/my dsl for the last few days and tonight it was down again so I called tech support and got "Josh" who walked me through resetting my modem. I have the 1st modem I ever got, 12 years ago. Possibly the oldest living modem on the planet.

The funny part is that "Josh", whose primary language was not English, asked me what dokie meant. He said that a lot of his customers said "okie dokie" and he'd looked up dokie in the dictionary and it was not in there. I was not too sure what how to explain. I ended up telling him we said it because it rhymed and it meant yes...funny question!!

Cord & Jet

Back to my Amazing Race cowboys...they kicked soccer balls when they had never been on a soccer field before and they are not drinkers and managed to down a boot of beer. I like that they don't drink.

They were quoted in Entertainment Weekly

Phil: Do those belt buckles slow you down?

One of the Cowboys: We'd move slower if our pants were down around our ankles.

I love these guys.

2010 Oscars

I usually record the Oscars so I can see the dresses and the awards I am interested in and the tributes and oldie awards but do not have to suffer through the cinematography and sound editing awards that only their mothers care about. It cuts it down from about 4 hours to about 45 minutes. Here is what i think:

I love that Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock won. I like them both alot and they both gave great performances. I already discussed Jeff in my 'Crazy Hearts' post and Sandra won for playing Louanne Touey in 'Blind Side'. She played a wealthy southern woman whose family adopted a black teenager off the streets, gets him into college and he is now a pro football player. She plays a very loving and smart mom. She dedicated her speech to the moms who love & care for children at any age and then to her mom. It was quite moving.

I think they are nutso to give a tribute to John Hughes and horror movies but do not call Lauren Bacall and Roger Corman on stage to accept Governor's awards. They put friggin Miley Cyrus on stage in a dress that no 16 year old should be wearing and cannot honor Lauren Bacall properly. Idiots.

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were not as annoying as I expected. But Neal Patrick Harris should be the host next year.

George Clooney. Sigh. Need I say more?

Sean Penn was barely comprehensible. He's talented but needs to stick to the movies and not come out in public.

I want to see 'Precious' although I think I will cry alot.

Colin Firth. Sigh. Need I say nore?

I never even heard of 'Hurt Locker' but will be watching it soon.

I don't think Hollywood likes James Cameron very much.

I think everyone loves Meryl Streep. She seems to have a great sense of humor.

It was a pretty good 45 minute show. Possibly 15 minutes too long.

Time Tunnel

I have discovered a 1960's series on DVD that I've never seen...actually, my frien Deb was a big fan because of James Darren and I am watching because of James Darren. He's old enough to be my dad but I don't care. He is adorable at any age.

This series involves a secret government experiment in which 2 scientists pop place to place in history. So far we have been on the Titanic, to the moon, in a mine cave-in where no one would help dig because they were waiting for Haleys Comet to wipe out the earth and we are now at Pearl Harbor, where Tony's (JD) dad is stationed and young Tony is played by the kid who played Opie Taylor's friend Arnold.

I've only see the 4 episodes but it's pretty cheesy. Picture Quantum Leap meets EdTV...the guys have an audience in the lab watching everything but they can't get them home. Lee Meriwether and Sam Elliot work in the lab. But I do have to ask some questions: Do they sleep? Shower? Will they wear the same clothes all season? James wears a green turtleneck and his partner is played by an actor that I've seen forever named Robert Colbert and he wears a early 1900's suit. They get pretty dirty but always pop in clean.

It only lasted 1 or 2 seasons (conflicting info, guess we'll see) so it's not really much of a commitment. And James Darren is hot at any age.

Roles they were meant to play--no one else will ever measure up

Gregory Peck Atticus Finch in 'To Kill a Mockingbird'

Audrey Hepburn Princess Katherine in 'Roman Holiday' "Hit him again, Smitty!!"

James Stewart George Bailey in 'It's a Wonderful Life' & Elwood P Dowd in 'Harvey'

Humphrey Bogart Rick in 'Casablanca'. Heck, that entire movie was brilliantly cast--Ingrid Bergman, Claude Raines, Paul Henreid, Sidney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre. Hard to find a better ensemble. Ever

William Holden Sgt Sefton 'Stalag 17'

Gloria Swanson Nora Desmond 'Sunset Blvd ' "I'm ready for my closeup,Mr DeMille"

Greer Garson 'Mrs Miniver'

Gary Cooper Will Kane in 'High Noon' and Lou Gehrig in 'Pride of the Yankees'

Patrick Swayze Johnny Castle in 'Dirty Dancing' ...not a great movie but a defining performance

There are so many more and it's late. I'll be adding more.

Crazt Heart ***Spoilers****

Went yesterday to see 'Crazy Heart' because I try every year to see the movies that are nominated for Academy Awards and if we get them at all it's normally the week before and for 2 days. I've lamented that before so we'll move on.

'Crazy Heart' stars Jeff Bridges as Bad Black, a 57 year old country singer who's seen better days. He drives around in a 1979 Suburban from town to town through the southwest singing in bowling alleys and beer joints. He has to count on local backup bands and the venues putting him up in cheap motels and feeding him. Alcohol has almost eaten up his talent and has taken it's toll on his body but he has a loyal group of fans who come to the show. He was also a partner with an up and coming country singer who has hit the big time without him and he's bitter about how it all went down.

In Santa Fe, he agrees to do an interview with the niece of one of the band members and meets and falls for Jeannie, played by Maggie Gyllenhall. She has a small son and wants to be careful with their relationship but she sees inside of him and falls back. Against her better judgement, they start to see each other. An incident involving her son makes her leave his house and sends him down a slippery slope that leads to rock bottom. Picture him in his tighty whities, puking and passing out on the bathroom floor.

Bad has friends that care about him...a bar owner played by Robert Duvall, a manager who keeps him employed and the before mentioned young country singer played by Colin Ferrell who thinks he is the best songwriter ever and lets him open for him and promises him some duets on an upcoming album. And Jeannie still cares, even though she can't take him back, he sees in her what he could have and makes him want to be a better man. A stint in rehab helps him clear his mind and pick up his guitar. And his friend Tommy (Colin) keeps his promises. Even without Jeannie, Bad is going to be ok.

Jeff Bridges will, I and everyone else predict, win an academy award. He's a good actor and this was a role he was meant to play. He literally has his worst side forward and we are still rooting for him. I like him a lot and he deserves to win.

Really good movie.

I like Blogs

I love to read what others think and what they are going through and I have several bookmarked to look at occasionally and a few I follow and there seems to be one thing that most of them do: They apologize for not posting more often. Like they are letting me--excuse me, us--down. Let me say that the (lack of good) writing on Grey's Anatomy these days disappointments me and they owe me an apology but not my bloggers.

Enjoy your life and let me know what goes on occasionally. We're good.

Cupcakes

I love cupcakes. I wish I had one now. A chocolate one.
